Take your understanding of Buddha's teachings to the next level with these focused classes on wisdom and compassion. Through attending regularly, you will develop the skills needed to develop a daily meditation practice.

The Teacher

Gen Samten Kelsang

Gen Samten has been studying and practicing Buddhism for over thirty years and is one of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s most senior students. He is well-known for his inspiring, clear and practical way of presenting Buddha’s teachings and meditation.

What to expect

  • Guided Meditation

    Be guided in a short breathing meditation and connect to an experience of inner peace. No prior experience is necessary.

  • Short Talk

    Every week the teachings explore one aspect of Dharma, or Buddha’s teachings, which focus on solutions to problems in daily life, inducing genuine optimism and increased happiness.

  • Q&A

    At the end of the class, there is time for questions & answers. All advice is given as suggestions to improve personal understanding of the teachings and to provide examples of how to apply the teachings to daily life.

  • Refreshments

    Enjoy the company of like-minded people after class in the Temple, Café and Bookstore. Light refreshments are offered.


Our meditation classes are very accessible. You do not need to bring any mats or wear any special clothing. We provide both cushions and chairs, and there is no physical exercise, yoga, or stretching involved.
Feel free to come however you are comfortable. We ask people to remove shoes and hats when you enter the meditation room.
Nothing in particular, but some people like to take notes so you may wish to bring a notepad and pen.
Yes, our Advice for Life series are perfect for everyone – no previous meditation experience is necessary and all classes are self-contained. Drop into one class or attend the entire series.

For those students who want to deepen their experience of Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso designed the Foundation Program (FP). FP allows us to become more deeply familiar with Buddhist teachings by systematically studying one of five texts on the FP curriculum.
