Learn how to use meditation to tap into a limitless source of happiness and peace within you. As we do this we begin to let go of everything that holds us back in life – our worries, problems, fears, unhappiness, frustration, anger, and negativity fall away. We come to enjoy an experience of optimism, well-being, and inner freedom. These classes will also help us to discover our enormous potential to bring real benefit to the people we care about, and to make a valuable contribution to the world around us.
Open to everyone – Drop-ins are welcome. Cost per class is $10. Classes include guided meditation, practical advice on integrating meditation into your life, and discussion with like-minded people. Rebecca is a student on Foundation Program at KMC New York. She is also our main chef for our Food for Thought events. She is known for her kindness and warmth, and her teachings are heartfelt and easy to apply into daily life.

Through sincerely training in meditation on the teachings given in these classes you will attain spiritual realizations, which lead you to permanent liberation from all the sufferings of this life and countless future lives. There is no greater meaning than this. Even temporarily, whenever you experience problems, unpleasant feelings, depression or unhappiness you can solve these problems immediately by transforming your mind into peace through your meditation practice. The benefits of meditation are immeasurable.
Q. Do I need to have experience in meditation or Buddhism to attend the classes?
You do not need to have experience in meditation or be a Buddhist to attend. The meditation classes we offer are suitable for all individuals, whatever their level of interest – from those who seek simple relaxation and stress relief, to those who wish to learn about Modern Buddhism. Everyone is welcome!
Q. I’ve never been to a meditation class before. What should I expect?
Our meditation classes are very accessible. You do not need to bring any mats or wear any special clothing. We sit in chairs, and there is no physical exercise, yoga, or stretching involved.
Q. What does a typical class look like?
A typical class consists of a simple relaxation meditation, teaching, a meditation based on the teaching and discussion and Q&A. The meditations are guided and are suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
Q: I’ve been coming to classes for a while. I really like what I hear. Is there something more I can try?
For those students who want to deepen their experience of Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso designed the Foundation Program (FP). FP allows us to become more deeply familiar with Buddhist teachings by systematically studying one of five texts on the FP curriculum.
