How to Purify Your Mind: A Buddhist Purification Practice for a Compassionate Life

It’s not uncommon to feel mentally burdened by our negative habits, hurtful tendencies, and painful past experiences. Buddha taught purification practices to purify our mind of these inner sources of unhappiness. In this series, Gen Samten will guide us in integrating the ancient and very powerful practice of the Sutra of the Three Superior Heaps into our daily lives.

This practice is a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and Bodhichitta. With the motivation of this supreme good heart, we can see how this purification practice, though private to each one of us, benefits all living beings.

As we progress and our mind becomes purer and purer, our ability to benefit others in a meaningful way increases. Gradually, through increasing our good qualities we learn how to let go of our negative patterns and become the person we wish to be.

*This is part one of a series is based on teachings from the Bodhisattva Vow. Part two will include teachings on the Bodhisattva vows and the six perfections.
